Christmas

In honor of Christmas I decided that I would look up some different interesting things about this lovely holiday. I found a website that told how you say "Merry Christmas" in many different languages. Here are a few of my favorite:

Frisian: Noflike Krystdagen en in protte Lok en Seine yn it Nije Jier!

Iroquois: Ojenyunyat Sungwiyadeson honungradon nagwutut. Ojenyunyat osrasay.

Ethiopian: (Amharic) Melkin Yelidet Beaal
(For Shelley and Alan)
Slovene: Vesele Bozicne Praznike Srecno Novo Leto or Vesel Bozic in srecno Novo leto.

Next, I looked up different traditions. This one from Greece I thought was kind of interesting.

St. Nicholas is important in Greece as the patron saint of sailors. According to Greek tradition, his clothes are drenched with brine, his beard drips with seawater, and his face is covered with perspiration because he has been working hard against the waves to reach sinking ships and rescue them from the angry sea. Greek ships never leave port without some sort of St. Nicholas icon on board. There is a tradition kallikantzeri, where the mischievous goblins appear from the earth during the 12 days of Christmas.

This one was also kind of interesting. In Bangladesh formerly known as East Pakistan, the Christian village men would cut down scores of banana trees and replant them in pairs along the paths to churches and outside their homes. They would then bend over the huge leaves of the banana trees to form an arch, they would then make small holes in the bamboo poles, fill them with oil and tie them across the arches. When the oil is lit, the way to the church is lit up bright enough for all to see.

I like looking up different traditions because it was one of my favorite things to do in elementary to learn about the different Christmas' around the world.

Prom Dress

Whitney found this dress on the internet, and I really liked it. Shelley, I wasn't sure if you still have time to make a dress so let me know. Anyway, let me know what you think of it. Also, I thought that was a funny Halloween costume.

Long Time No Blog!

Wow. Alot of things have happened since I blogged last. Well, for starters, I started and then quit Cross Country so that I could be on the swim team. I was terrible when I started. I thought that I knew how to swim from my swim classes when I was younger, but I had no idea what was in store for me at the first practice. I had the breathing, and technic ALL wrong! So, that first week was real fun. I am much better now. My swim coach Marilyn Collard tells me everyday how much I am improving with each practice. I still am terrible at the Butterfly stroke, and Marilyn laughs at me everytime I try to do it. My favorite strokes are the breaststroke and the backstroke. I think I like them because I get to breathe alot. Our first meet is on November 11. I'm pretty excited although I will probably still be needing work on my technic. Well, that's all for swimming.
As for Homecoming, I had a lot of fun. I only have one picture so that will have to do. The theme was "I Wanna Rock". That's why my date and I are holding blow up guitars. We won our Homecoming game against Richfield. It was nice to win after the devastating loss last year. The players were very excited.

On another note, I love fall so I have been taking some pictures. I think that fall is the prettiest time of the the year because there are so many colors. Fall is definitely my favorite season, although I love each season for different reasons. I am very excited for Halloween. I am thinking about having a Halloween party with my friends. I always remember Miranda and Whitney having their Halloween parties and I always wanted to be a part of the fun and games, but always got shewed away.

Severe Workout

A few days ago Banner and I slept at Liz and Dennis' house. In the morning we did a workout tape with Lizzy. It gave inspiration to make our own video, and after some technical difficulties we finally got it up. Enjoy!

On another note, we've started school. It doesn't seem like it is time already, but oh well! It was a crazy week. I think I had more homework this week than any other school years combined. I also started X-Country against my will. I am not a fan of it, but I'm going to keep going so that I can get in shape for track. Anyways, that's all I have for now, so tell me how you like the video!

Just A Little Catching Up

So, I noticed today that I hadn't done a new blog in over 2 months so although I don't have anything too exciting I thought I'd still do a new blog. Recently I read The Secret Life of Bees. It was a good book and I recommend all of you who haven't read it to do so.
Mostly, I'm just trying to deal with the last three weeks of school and finishing the track season. I have the region track meet on Thursday at Salem Hills, and hope that I do well. We are testing alot in school and I'm getting kind of stressed out, but I just tell myself that it's almost over for the year! I'm very excited for summer.
On Sunday afternoon Banner and I were watching a movie and I thought I'd put some funny quotes on my blog and see if anyone can guess what the movie is. So here are the quotes.

1."Please don't say were not going to take the car home. Please don't say were not going to take the car home. Please don't say were not going to take the car home." "If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away?"

2."I did not achieve this position in life by having some snot-nosed punk leave my cheese out in the wind."

3."Oh, __. You just sounded like Dirty Harry just then."

4."Yeah, that's right, just, uh, roll her old bones on over here, and I'll dig up your daughter. You know that's school policy."

These are some of the funny ones that I remember... I think that Sara should get the movie, but we'll have to see.

Also, I had the Sadie Hawkins dance, it was pretty fun. So here's a picture of me my two friends and our dates.

Entrepreneurial News!!

Wow! It's been a while since I did a blog! I didn't have anything to post, but I do now. I've started a cleaning business!! I only have two customers at the moment, but guess who they are?? Aunt Liz and my mom. I'll be working for them on Saturday's so that I can earn gas money. It's been hard on my pocketbook trying to get money. Ok, so it's been hard on my parents! haha! Anyways, I guess it's better than doing some of the other jobs my mom and I were coming up with. So that's my news. I'll try to do a new post soon.
